Welcome to Norfolk House, the home of The Scarlet Hen, where we’ve hosted over 500 hen weekends and more than 10,000 guests.
One of the biggest mistakes we see bridesmaids make is trying to fill every minute of the hen do weekend with activities.
The best hen weekends have a bit of structure, a couple of memorable moments and plenty of time for catching up with friends.
After hosting over 500 hen weekends and more than 10,000 guests, here at The Scarlet Hen here’s what tends to work best.
Friday
2:30pm – Arrive at Norfolk House (AKA The Scarlet Hen House)
One thing guests particularly love is our complimentary 2:30pm early check-in, meaning you get most of the first day to enjoy the house rather than arriving just in time for dinner.
Settled into your rooms, unpack the Prosecco, add any decorations, check the room allocations.
4:00pm – Grazing boards and welcomes
This is usually when everyone starts to relax and switch into holiday mode.
6pm – PJs, Prosecco, Karaoke and Pizza
Games, fancy dress, Mr and Mrs is always a hit, or video messages from the brides Ex’s is a scream
No taxis, no queues and nobody losing half the group in town.
8pm – Our famous Cocktail Master Class is a favourite
Saturday
9:00am – Slow breakfast and coffee
Fancy a little upgrade?
Why not add our delicious chef’s brunch to your stay?
French toast with berries, crème fraîche and fruit compote, anyone?
There’s no rush.
11:00am – Activity time
Choose one or two activities that suit your bride:
Sip & Paint
2:00pm – Free time
The best weekends always leave a little breathing room.
Use the hot tub, explore Greenhead Park opposite the house or simply enjoy the garden with a drink and a catch-up.
7:00pm – Get dressed up for your big evening
Whether that’s a private chef dinner, cocktails in the house or heading into Leeds for a few hours.
Sunday
10:00am – Brekkie and goodbyes
The bride opens cards, everyone shares photos from the weekend and nobody wants to leave.
Not quite ready for the weekend to end?
Upgrade to a late checkout of 12 noon and squeeze a few more precious hours out of your stay.
Why not head to our favourite local brunch spot, The Scullery Kitchen and Bar, for coffee and brunch before beginning the journey home?

We’re just six miles from the beautiful Pennines and Peak District, making Norfolk House the perfect base for a Sunday morning hike before heading home.
