Out For Drinks

It’s 5 O’Clock somewhere!

Cocktails, Bars & Evenings Out near Norfolk House

Planning a hen weekend or birthday celebration at The Scarlet Hen at Norfolk House? Our exclusive-use group accommodation in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, sleeps up to 25 guests and has its own bar and party room.

If you fancy heading out during your stay, this guide brings together our local favourites for drinks and dining, from nearby Marsh and Lindley to Holmfirth and Leeds.

Norfolk House is within walking distance of Huddersfield town centre, where there are still a few places to enjoy a drink. Like many town centres, however, we’ve sadly lost several pubs and bars in recent years.

If you’re looking for somewhere with a little more atmosphere for cocktails or an evening out, we’d recommend nearby Lindley (2 miles) as your first stop, or Holmfirth (6 miles) if you fancy heading a little further afield. We’ve included a selection of options below.

If you’re looking for something a little more cosmopolitan, Leeds is 20 minutes away by train, with a fabulous selection of high-end bars, restaurants and places to eat.

Of course, with your own bar and party room at Norfolk House—and the option to bring a cocktail masterclass or private chef to you—you might find your favourite evening is the one spent staying in.

Lindley is a cute village with a good choice of restaurants, bars and traditional pubs—enough to enjoy a little pub crawl, with a few different stops along the way.

With in walking distance of Norfolk House

The Scullery Kitchen & Bar

Our favourite nearby spot for food and drinks is The Scullery, just a ten-minute walk from Norfolk House.

Set within Bents House—a historic house with a very familiar feel—it combines seasonal food, cocktails and a well-chosen wine list with a lovely courtyard for drinks outside. Steve, Helen and their team will give you a warm welcome.

The Junction, Marsh (10 min walk)

Our closest pub, The Junction is a friendly, traditional local within walking distance of Norfolk House. Expect honest pub grub and a relaxed place to enjoy a pint—or take a seat outside and watch the world go by.

Lindley Village

Manor House Lindley

Start your evening at the fabulous Manor House. Its atmospheric Clock Tower Bar has plush booths and a menu of classic and signature cocktails—a lovely place to dress up and enjoy your first drink.

No. 10 Bar

Head over to No. 10 on Lidget Street for classic cocktails, house specials and wine. A good stop for the cocktail lovers in your group.

Lindley Tap Bar & Grill

A more casual stop offering cocktails, wine and craft beers, with food available if you fancy something to eat along the way.

The Wine Café

An independent wine bar serving seasonal small plates and cheese alongside a changing wine selection. Ideal for a glass of wine and something to share.

The Black Bull

Round off your evening with drinks at this traditional village pub on West Street, offering a relaxed atmosphere and a selection of beers, spirits and cocktails.

For larger groups, we recommend contacting venues ahead of your visit to check availability.

Holmfirth Pub & Bar Guide (our favourite choice)

If you fancy heading a little further afield, Holmfirth is a lovely choice for an afternoon of drinks or an evening out. Its compact centre has independent bars, restaurants and places to stop for a cocktail, glass of wine or something to eat.

Coopers Yard

A modern food hall and bar on Cooper Lane, with street food, cocktails and beer in a relaxed, sociable setting. A good place to start your afternoon with something to eat and your first drink.

The Winking Stag

A cocktail bar with plenty of character, serving handcrafted drinks and Japanese-inspired food. Its cosy cellar lounge makes it a lovely stop for cocktails with friends.

Oscar’s Café & Wine Bar

A welcoming spot on Rotcher Road for wine, cocktails and something to share. Ideal for settling in for a relaxed drink and a catch-up.

Cru Wine Bar

An independent wine bar run by two passionate sommeliers. Expect a carefully chosen wine selection, cheese and charcuterie boards, small plates and a few cocktails. A good choice for the wine lovers in your group.

Harvey’s Bar & Kitchen

A lively, modern bar and restaurant in the centre of Holmfirth, with handcrafted cocktails, wine and a varied food menu including tapas and pizzas. A handy choice if you want drinks and dinner together.

Nowhere Kitchen & Brewery

A little different, with beer brewed on-site, natural wines and seasonal small plates. They also host music, film and art events—a good stop for guests who enjoy independent places with character.

Charlie’s Vintage Bar

A vintage-style bar on Victoria Street serving cocktails, wine and beer. Another option for a relaxed drink as you explore the town.

Pick a few favourites and take the afternoon at your own pace. For larger groups, contact venues beforehand and arrange your return taxi to Norfolk House in advance.

For a special afternoon: visit a vineyard

For something a little different, head up to Holmfirth Vineyard for a vineyard tour and wine tasting, followed by lunch or afternoon tea overlooking the Holme Valley. A lovely way to spend an afternoon together.

Alternatively, Helme Edge Vineyard, near Meltham, offers a smaller, family-run experience, with guided tours and tastings of their own sparkling and still wines.

Book ahead with either vineyard, especially for groups. Check availability before planning your visit, as Holmfirth Vineyard sometimes closes for private events.

Five Cocktail Bars to Try in Leeds

For a more cosmopolitan evening out, Leeds has plenty of choice. These five would make our shortlist:

Tabula Rasa, Eastgate

An atmospheric bar with Art Deco styling, inventive cocktails and cheese and charcuterie to share. A lovely choice for starting your evening.

Below Stairs, South Parade

A tucked-away basement cocktail bar with a relaxed atmosphere and creative drinks. Ideal for settling in and trying something a little different.

The Domino Club, Grand Arcade

A hidden basement bar entered through a barbershop, combining cocktails with live jazz, funk and soul. A good choice if you want music to be part of the evening.

Blind Tyger, Cross Belgrave Street

A cosy, Prohibition-inspired drinking den tucked above Sandinista. A characterful stop for cocktails away from the bustle of the street.

The Maven, Call Lane

Handcrafted cocktails, guest DJs and a lively late-night atmosphere. The one to choose if your evening is likely to turn into dancing.

For larger groups, contact the bars ahead of your visit to arrange tables and check availability.
