We’re so pleased to have The Light in Huddersfield town centre. Bowling, axe throwing, karaoke, laser tag and cinema, all under one roof — it’s a welcome addition for guests who fancy heading out during their Norfolk House stay.

We love a countryside walk, but sometimes you want to let off steam, get a little competitive and enjoy yourselves without checking the weather forecast. The Light gives you plenty of ways to do exactly that.

For anyone planning a hen party in Yorkshire, a birthday weekend or an overnight team celebration, it adds even more choice to a stay at The Scarlet Hen at Norfolk House.

More Than a Cinema

Located at Kingsgate Shopping Centre, The Light Huddersfield combines a six-screen cinema with indoor leisure activities, games, a kitchen and a bar.

You can make an afternoon of it, choose one activity before dinner or finish your visit by settling down to watch a film. Having everything together makes it easier to plan an outing without moving your group between several venues.

Bowling, Axe Throwing and Some Friendly Competition

There’s always someone who says they’re “not competitive” before spending the entire game watching the scoreboard.

Bowling

Split into teams, choose your team names and see who gets the first strike. Bowling gives everyone something to join in with while leaving room for chatting, laughing and catching up.

The Light accommodates up to six players per lane, so larger hen parties and corporate groups will need several lanes. Food and drinks can be delivered to your lane, too.

Axe Throwing

If your group wants to try something different, axe throwing could be the activity that gets everyone talking.

Check the venue’s current participation requirements and session details before booking, then see who discovers an unexpected talent.

Mini Golf, Darts and Shuffleboard

For a sociable afternoon with a competitive streak, explore the mini golf, interactive darts and shuffleboard options.

They’re worth considering when your group wants an activity that keeps the conversation flowing. Choose one favourite or ask about a package combining different games.

Yes, There Are Private Karaoke Rooms

A hen weekend singalong doesn’t have to wait until you’re back at the house.

The Light has private karaoke rooms, so your group can enjoy its own session. Pick the bride’s favourites, bring out the birthday classics and find out who has been waiting all weekend for a microphone.

Check room capacity before booking: larger groups may need to discuss arrangements directly with the team.

StarQuest Laser Tag and Adventure Activities

And yes — there’s a laser activity too.

StarQuest laser tag takes place in a two-level arena, giving your group another way to team up and enjoy some friendly rivalry.

For those who fancy something more active, The Light also offers climbing challenge walls and high ropes. Other activities listed include:

• X-Wall interactive football.
• BatFast batting cages.
• Street curling.
• Interactive shooting.
• American pool.
• Arcade games.
• Skittles.

With so much choice, you can build an outing around what your group actually enjoys. Activity schedules and participation requirements vary, so check before booking.

Food, Drinks and a Film to Finish

You can eat at The Light, with its kitchen serving options including pizzas, burgers and sharing platters. There’s also a bar and coffee available, so you can pause between games or combine your activity with a meal.

Browse the food and drink options.

If you fancy a slower finish, head to the cinema. Its six screens offer different seating options, including armchairs, recliners, loungers and sofas. Check the seating available for your chosen screening when booking.

What Are Visitors Saying?

Independent visitor reviews give a useful picture of how people are using the venue.

Positive Tripadvisor reviews describe comfortable cinema seating, enjoyable combinations of games and successful work celebrations. One company group of 20 reported playing shuffleboard, darts and bowling over three hours, with organised changeovers and a buffet.

Feedback also mentions that the games areas can be busy and loud, and some visitors report service issues. For a large group, it makes sense to agree your activities, timings and food arrangements in advance.

The Light is also worth exploring for a family day out in Huddersfield. Cinema, bowling and games offer different ways to spend time together indoors, with activities chosen to suit participants’ ages and interests.

For our Norfolk House guests, it’s another option when rain changes your plans. You can still enjoy an afternoon out, then return to the house for the rest of your weekend.

Corporate Teams and Birthday Celebrations

This isn’t only an idea for hens. Bowling, games and karaoke can also add a social outing to a corporate reward stay or birthday weekend.
